It is my last week in South America and I just got back from Machu Picchu. I saved the best for (almost) last. I managed to do everything I wanted to do in South America and still have a few days left before my flight out of Lima back home. I decide to bus back from Cusco to Lima and stop on the way in Huacachina and Paracas. This way, I can visit the Islas Balletas and do a tour of the Paracas National Park. I search online for a place to stay and stumble upon the Hotel Paracas Luxury Collection Resort.
The price is almost 10x higher than my normal 6-bed hostel room. But what a great way to end my time in Peru by staying in a fancy place near the sea. It’s even called a resort and the pictures are amazing. It has 2 pools and it looks very inviting. The reviews are raving too so it is only a matter of deciding if I want to spend that much money on accommodation.
I decide to take the plunge and book 2 nights at the Paracas Luxury Collection Resort. The grand total price in USD is higher than my combined lodging budget for the first 2 weeks of my trip around South America but I decide I’d like to splurge a bit. These will be my 2 last nights in Peru and South America and I’d like to end my trip relaxed and in luxury.
Because I want to share my experiences with this hotel, I’ll give you my review of the Paracas Luxury Collection Resort. I was not paid or endorsed to do so.
Location of Paracas Luxury Collection Resort
Paracas is situated at the Pacific Ocean and is famous for its morning boat trips to the Islas Ballestas a.k.a. “Poor man’s Galapagos Islands”. You can also visit the Paracas National Reserve which is a half day tour. Paracas is a small settlement 20 minutes from the notorious Pan Americana Highway.
Paracas consists of 2 round-a-bouts at each end of town. In between is the village which consists of hotels, resorts, the harbour and small eateries.
Hotel Paracas Luxury Collection Resort
The location of the Hotel Paracas Luxury Collection Resort is a bit out of the town of Paracas. I timed it and I managed to walk from the resort into town under 4 minutes. I did take a taxi after nightfall which was at 6 pm. The taxi costs 10 Soles, but you might be able to negotiate to 8 Soles. But this feels a bit weird as the taxi driver picks you up or drops you off at this Paracas Luxury Collection Resort and then you’ll haggle for 2 Soles. Most taxi drivers will ask you how long you’re staying and they offer their phone number so they can become your dedicated driver.
The resort is located at the seaside and has 2 piers onto the water. Once serves as a dock too so it’s easily accessible by boat too. As there is not much to do in Paracas anyway, there is no use to stay in the centre of Paracas.
But… the location at the sea side doesn’t do the resort any good either. You can’t swim in the ocean because of the sting rays and sitting at the beach is a real challenge because of the smell. The algae are numerous and they are giving off a horrible smell as they rot away. Read more in my story called the naked truth about Paracas, Peru.
This smell is present everywhere in Paracas, so not really something the Hotel Paracas Luxury Collection Resort can help but it doesn’t speak in it’s favour either. If you imaged yourself swimming in the pool and chilling at the beach, like I did, you might feel cheated. I do feel the Hotel Paracas Luxury Collection Resort could make an effort and at least clean up the beach belonging to the resort.
Location rating: 3/5 because the Hotel Paracas Luxury Collection Resort cannot help the rotten algae but its not doing the resort any good either.
Price of Paracas Luxury Collection Resort
I have never stayed in such an expensive hotel before. Normally, I book a hostel,(like the hostel in Cologne) or small hotels or Airbnb’s. So this was more than a big splurge for me and I knew I had to pull out my credit card. The question is: is it worth it?
I paid $270 for 2 night for 1 person in a double queen sized bungalow. That makes 135$ per night. Not too bad for a place which calls itself the Hotel Paracas Luxury Collection Resort, now does it? But when you think it was the start of winter and we’re talking about a hotel in Peru.
If you look at it like that, 135$ sounds a bit much. Especially when the breakfast is not included and costs a whopping 22$ per person. How much breakfast can you eat for 22 US Dollars!?
I do think you’ll get value for money at the Paracas Luxury Collection Resort. The general price level in Paracas seems a bit higher than the rest of Peru. But still, the price is very steep, especially for Peruvian standards.

Facilities at the Paracas Luxury Collection Resort
The Paracas Luxury Collection Resort has everything. 2 Pools, a private beach, large reception, a SPA and gym, a play room for children with games and room to paint and colour. It offers a pool bar, a huge restaurant and another pool bar and lounge area. You can have a cocktail at the pier and dock your boat here too.
The Hotel Paracas Luxury Collection Resort seems equipped to keep you occupied for a full day. You don’t even have to leave the resort and why would you? At the two pools, there were more than enough lounge chairs and relaxing seats available. Each chair was equipped with a nice big fluffy towel and the chairs were really comfortable. Everything looked spot on but my only concerns were the pigeons bathing in the pool. I only stayed for 2 nights, but I can imagine spending the weekend or even a week at the resort. Just chillin’ and enjoying the luxury!

My room at the Paracas Luxury Collection Resort
The room was the reason for booking my 2 nights stay at the Hotel Paracas Luxury Collection Resort. I chose for the queen sized bed and was pleasantly surprised with what the bungalow had to offer.
At the outside, there is a seating area with lovely cushions where you can lounge. In the room, you also have a nice couch and of course the big queen sized bed. You can sit at the desk and the TV has 999 channels. Most of them are Spanish but who doesn’t enjoy a telenovela from time to time?
There is a big ass closet with a safe box and extra robes and slippers. The bathroom was actually the place I spend most of my time in. A big walk in shower with rain function, double sinks and a huge bath. The bathroom has a separate toilet with bidet. The Hotel Paracas Luxury Collection Resort offers you more towels than you can use. Big ones, small ones, tiny ones, and wash cloths in different sizes. The bathroom is fitted with a blow dryer, enlarging mirror (goodbye unibrow) and the best feature of all: separate light switches for everything. Yes, that is right; you can dim the lights in the bathroom and take a shower with candle light illumination. The air-conditioning system is easy to regulate, it is also separate in each division of the room.
And then the best feature: the bed at the Paracas Luxury Collection Resort! It was so big! And there were over a dozen pillows. The sheets where nice and soft and didn’t smell like starch or detergent. I liked the bamboo head board and the colours of the room give it a natural feel.
You can have free Wi-Fi at the reception but each room comes with a 24h free Wi-Fi code. As I stayed 2 nights, I got 48h of free Wi-Fi. You can use the Wi-Fi up to 2 devices. For Peruvian standards, the Wi-Fi was fast and I made good use of it!
I did have some problems with the lock of the door, as my key card was reset twice and I had to go back to reception to activate this.

Staff at Paracas Luxury Collection Resort
I only stayed 2 nights at the Paracas Luxury Collection Resort, one of which I was out all day. Therefore, I didn’t interact a lot with the staff. During check-in 2 managers greeted me and they checked me in immediately. A bell boy carried my bag to my bungalow and he explained me the features of the room. He wished me a pleasant stay. All staff I encountered during my stay was smiling and greeted me with a nod. When my key card was not functioning, the receptionist handled the problem quickly and efficient.
Maybe I am not used to such kind of luxury hotel, but I did find the check in procedure and especially the check-out procedure a bit long. The receptionist printed endless documents and e-mailed them to me. I had to sign a number of documents before my credit card was billed, although I already made a reservation via an online booking system.
When I went to have breakfast, I found it a bit annoying that the staff first made me sign documents and wait at a counter while they ran off with my credit card, before I could sit at my table and have a cup of tea.
This is probably a procedure thing, which I’m not used to. Other than that, the staff was nothing but friendly. They helped me carry my plate with food to my table and asked me for refills of my tea and juice every change they get.

Overall rating of the Paracas Luxury Collection Resort
My overall rating of the Hotel Paracas Luxury Collection Resort is 20 points out of 25 points. This is mainly due to the location and the general smell of Paracas which is not pleasant, otherwise it would be almost 25 points.
If you do decide to stay in Paracas and wish to splurge a bit and treat yourself to a luxury resort, the Paracas Luxury Collection Resort has you covered. You’ll not find another hotel in Paracas better suited to enjoy a bit of luxury.
You can enjoy the bathroom as a solo traveller, have a romantic dinner for two or spend time with your whole family at the resort. The Hotel Paracas Luxury Collection Resort caters to all and is truly THE Luxury hotel in town. You can find more information on the hotel’s website or book directly via booking.com.*
